Last night I put yogurt and a salad in a bag in preparation for the next day’s breakfast and lunch, respectively. Light, healthy, CHEAP, and if I did end up being hungry, I could always resort to the Frosted Mini Wheats in my desk drawer, which can fill me up without me having to eat that much.

I ended up forgetting the bag at John’s place this morning so for lunch I bought a cheeseburger combo at the office cafeteria, and ate the whole damn thing, fries, coke, and all. The burger was no pansy patty off the McD’s value menu, either.

Now my stomach is bursting and the whole trying-to-eat-better-and-save-money thing is out the window. Good job, me.

AC Express

NYC, Travel / No Comments

Here’s a topic that matters to me because my hometown and parents are near Atlantic City, and my current residence is near (possibly soon to be IN) New York City.

I was a bit surprised to learn—from John, no less—that the NYC to AC train service has already begun. I remember reading about the proposal ages ago, back when times were good, and, if I recall correctly, the target customers were high-rolling, NYC-residing Wall Streeters.

All the same, I was kind of disappointed to learn one-way tickets start at $50, considering you can catch a roundtrip Greyhound every (half) hour from the Port Authority for $35 AND get $20 of that back from the casino. Sipping cocktails on the train sounds right up my alley and all, but I think I can survive without a drink for 2.5 hours. I survived a 7-hour sleeper bus in Vietnam, for crying out loud.

Bitter Renter

Jersey City / No Comments

As all 2 of you who visit this site may have noticed, I added a little counter on the right sidebar. I’m that eager to get out of my current apartment. Not only is the building rather old and decrepit, I can often hear a squirrel (?) scuttling around the walls and ceiling of my living room. It’s pretty much the reason I moved my TV into my bedroom. Now I only leave the bedroom to go to the bathroom or use the kitchen (or leave my apartment, obviously). My whole living room sits useless and empty aside from a shelf and a few other odds and ends. (I never bought a couch.)

Space is the last thing I need. I am basically already living my life as if I were in a studio. And besides, I’m wasting gas heating an empty room. That’s money I could be spending on booze!

I can’t wait to get out of this lease. Even if I don’t move into the city, I’ll be glad to get out of the tragically managed dump I’m in now. Damned if I’m gonna help some douchebag pay a mortgage on a crumbling piece of crap property.

Jersey City / No Comments

New York City studio rents are now very much in my price range so I’ve been checking Craigslist religiously to keep track of them for the next 4 months before my current overpriced Jersey City lease is up. I liked the description in this ad for an Upper East Side studio: “Where else can you get a $1350 studio for NO FEE? Ohio? Kansas? NO! Right here!” and “This is a once-in-a-crippled-market opportunity!”

My friend and I were being pestered by a random bloke last night so I went up to the bar to get a few minutes by myself and noticed the dude next to me was sitting alone rather glumly. I asked him, “Why so serious?”

His reply: “I work for Citibank.”

In related news, I still have a job and I’m counting my blessings.
