And not even because the idea of “washing” a room with Febreze is dumb and gross, but because the audio is so abhorrently off. 1970s kung fu movie called, it wants its sound dubbers back. Such garbage. Especially around 10 seconds in when the mom says, “You’ve gotta wash this whole room” and the kid’s like, “Are you kidding?” WTF? It annoys me so much I actually jump for the remote and change the channel as soon as that dumb spot comes on. And I only do that because I can’t afford to hurl the remote at the TV.
I hate to have to post this dreck, but here it is for reference:
One of the great things about visiting my parents is the delightful home theatre and sound setup they have. Even without a superior setup, merely the fact that they have a single family home on an acre of land means one can blast the volume without worrying about disturbing the neighbours.
Unfortunately my dad hasn’t been able to get the sound system to work with the computer and I am stuck listening to trance on the crappy monitor speakers. They are tinny and horrible for listening to things that are rich in bass (you know, like trance music). But fear not! I can download the music I want (3 hours for this one mp3 disc set I want; 12 hours for the FLAC files!), burn it to CD/DVD, then play the disc on the DVD player.
…Sometimes it really seems as if all the technological advances in the world don’t really matter in the end. And gods forbid the DVD player doesn’t recognize FLAC and I have to compress it all anyway. :(
Speaking of which, Lada GaGa was on one of the late night shows last night and in the background I saw a guy using a Roland Fantom-G7 and Fantom-G8. That’s when I went gaga.
“i never realised how lucky we are in the uk to have had people like pete tong on the radio for the last 15 years or more – these days most major radio stations aimed at young people play nothing but EDM all night at weekends – and there are whole fm stations devoted to 24/7 EDM
i just take it for granted…”

Yeah, you lucky bastards. You better appreciate. It’s all “OONCE OONCE” to Americans.
Hopefully Ministry of Sound plays some good “choons” while I’m over there.
The tune “Ramsterdam” has been making its rounds on many trance radio shows the past couple months. I kind of love the song. It’s got the best buildup of any song ever. I started IMing Rich with “RAMSTERDAM” when it came on, at first because the name amused me, and then I was doing it every time I heard the song because it was getting so much play. This past Friday we were at Pacha to see Ronski Speed (A+) and he played it. I was up near the front and Rich wasn’t around, so I turned to the guy next to me and yelled “RAMSTERDAM!!!” in his ear. He look one look at me and then edged away.
Pfft, whatever, dude.
The song in question: Ram – Ramsterdam (Jorn van Deynhoven Remix)
Last Saturday Rich and I kind of accidentally found ourselves at what looked to be a vampire/goth night at Rebel. According to the flyer it was partly presented by VampireFreaks and they even had a dremel there so you could make fangs (AAAUGGGHH!). (I later found out the event was called “Cybertron”.) It wasn’t exactly our scene, but I did find myself enjoying the music and the crowd was unpretentious and non-douchey so it was a pleasant turn of events. The music the one DJ played was not really so different from trance and probably better than anything else we could have found that night. I ended up getting his CD and, in another “accident,” got the CD of this band (photos courtesy Rich):

I’d forgotten how much I like industrial music. I never imagined myself going to something like this, but I’m glad we did. After so many disappointments lately, it was really refreshing to find a venue where I could enjoy the music and dance—and it was a mistake on my part that we even stayed there in the first place!
One thing about this scene though… What the hell is with the goggles?
I’m going to London and Amsterdam this winter from 25 December to 3 January with Rich. We’ll be in London until the 31st, then celebrating New Years in Amsterdam. We’ll also take a day trip to Rotterdam on the 1st because I’m considering a business school there. Should be fun!
In the spirit of things, here‘s a video Rich sent me in response to my HONDEPOEP text message. And below is the original Sesamstraat (Sesame Street) version (the translation is in the first video):
So on the flip side of last entry… I’m listening to Tiësto’s “Kaleidoscope” album right now. I have to say, this album would not make any bloody sense had I not seen it live (twice!). I gotta hand it to the guy. He’s a good DJ. Eff the haters.
Oh, so we checked out the new Best Buy that opened in Union Square. It is colossal and open 24 hours. The music section is freaking crazy. There’s a whole little section devoted to DJ equipment, even a few shelves of lights and fog machines. Me, I was wetting myself over the Roland Fantom-G8 synthesizer workstation.
This has got to be the best and worst thing to open up one goddamn block from me. I’m one drunken night away from buying a $3500 synthesizer I barely know how to use.
I listened to my first quarterly earnings conference call today for Activision Blizzard (ATVI). It is as boring as you can imagine, but it is fun to hear them talking about their titles.
Also, they said they were going to talk about a new IP and only during the Q&A did they mention it again after someone asked about it. This is basically what they said: “We have an unannounced MMO that is not a direct sequel to World of Warcraft.”
Gee, thanks, assholes.
I own a handful of shares of ATVI, in the spirit of full disclosure and all that mumbo jumbo.
I burnt my tongue the other night and was talking about it with Rich last night on the phone.
Me: You know those little bumps on your tongue? Those little Diglets?
Rich: You mean your taste buds?
Me: I dunno. They’re like little Diglets on your tongue.
Rich: What?
Me: Diglets. Do you know what Diglets are?
Rich: …No.
