My Hood > Yours

At least it’s probably more expensive than yours.

America’s Most Expensive ZIP Codes

Mine is #22. I’m a little surprised, frankly. I know EV/LES has its share of fancy new high-rises, but we still have a lot of artists and students and tiny craptastic apartment buildings like mine. How in the world is our median home price $2.8MM? Especially considering the median income is $60,000. CLASS WAR!

Last Thursday this older dude at the bar got pissed off at this young dude and reamed him out for having “Mommy and Daddy pay your $3,000 a month rent while you go out and buy $300 jeans and iPhones.” Okay, maybe I added the $300 jeans and iPhones part, but you get the gist. Poor kid just slunk away.

Good Club, Bad Club

Reading the streams of bad tidings over at Sin-Sin/Leopard Lounge makes me think about how people are at electronic music shows and clubs. It’s obviously not the place itself. We have had small trance gatherings at Sin-Sin. We aren’t violent. We don’t have much drama. We wouldn’t throw feces at Tila Tequila, no matter how much she may bring out our baser, simian tendencies. We don’t sneak weapons into clubs, we sneak… happier things.

During Electric Zoo, this dude came up to us holding his nose and asked Rich for a napkin because his nose was bleeding. I don’t have to tell you where my mind immediately went, but he explained that an overenthusiastic dancer had accidentally hit him. I think in a lot of other situations, something like that can escalate into very bad times. And here, it didn’t. Par for the course. (This is why I will advocate for legalizing certain substances, but that is another story.)

Aside from the time some loser threw pills in my drink, I can’t think of any time us EDM fans have behaved very badly. To be honest, I’m probably the worst sort of EDM fan as far as “niceness,” since I only drink (which in turn makes me angry when I go overboard), whilst a large portion of folks get happy on other things.

Unfortunately, it makes establishing weekly ‘trance nights’ and the like pretty difficult as tranceheads don’t drink enough bloody alcohol to warrant a regular spot!

Trance Energy is Now Just ‘Energy’

Trance Energy gaat verder als ENERGY (Sorry, I’m too lazy to find an English article on it.)

I guess the trance movement has pretty much left the Netherlands (Europe) and firmly planted itself on US shores. Which would be fine except I’m going the opposite way. HA.

Also, if I had known the Great Food Truck Race concluded RIGHT IN MY NEIGHBOURHOOD, maybe I would’ve held off on going to Chicago that weekend and had a banh mi taco from Nom Nom instead. UGH.

I love my ‘hood.

Electric Boogaloo Number Two

So Electric Zoo happened last weekend. Last year I was camera-less for a while, so I’ve been trying to make up for it this year and I’ve got pics, pics, pics! Check ‘em out in my Photos. I hope I adequately captured the craziness that is EZ.

Had a good time, as expected. We spent the most time in the Hilltop Arena, since that was the tranciest. The stage setups were definitely much grander than last year and there were a few thousand more people to boot, which is awesome! It was incredibly dusty, but somehow my usually itchy eyes did not get irritated. It did dry the hell out of my nose though, so for two days after EZ, I actually got a wicked bloody nose when I blew it.

Best Dam Music Event Site

DJGUIDE.nl

This site is the bomb. It’s got tons of event listings for electronic music in the Netherlands and Belgium. It’s in Dutch and switching it to English is largely useless, but it was a great help last year when I was looking for a New Years party. There was this wonderful event on the wharf across the IJ river that I would never have known about without it. I’m using it again to find something to do for our upcoming visit.

Since I sort of stole their tagline, here’s the song that’s in the latest Amstel Light commercial:
