How am I supposed to start a revolution now?

I’m really glad I have the opportunity to visit Vietnam again, but I can’t say I’m not a tiny bit bummed about all the shows I’ll be missing:
March 26 – Tiësto @ Trump Taj Mahal, Atlantic City
April 1/2 – Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY @ BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, Brooklyn
April 2 – Ferry Corsten & Hardwell @ Best Buy Theatre
April 9 – Yanni @ Radio City Music Hall
April 11 – Kaskade @ mur.mur at Borgata, Atlantic City
(I also flirted with the idea of attending ASOT500 in Den Bosch, NL, but looks like that’s definitely out of the question.)
Basically all my favorite music ever is coming around the same time and I can’t go. I just need J. S. Bach to come back from the dead and conduct his own concertos for this list to be rounded out.
Given my ridiculous prescription, I pretty much have to choose plastic frames because coke bottle lenses on metal frames generally looks dumb. I was wearing a black turtleneck. So when the guy picked out a few black frames for me to try, I said, “I want something a little funky. I know I’ve got this black turtleneck on, but I don’t want to look too Steve Jobs.”
The salesman laughed and said, “I know, I know you won’t always be wearing that turtleneck. What do you do, by the way?”
“…I’m a programmer.”
Btw, LensCrafters is having their semiannual 50% off lenses sale. Which is a BFD when your cranky eyes require $615 lenses. (My frames more than made up for the savings though.)
I’ve been basically living at Rich’s for the past 6+ months with only some essentials from my place, and I haven’t really missed any of the stuff I left behind. This means 75% of the stuff I own is superfluous junk, much like my writing. Ami has taken over my apartment now, and I’m pretty much officially moved in with Rich down in the FiDi. I still have a lot of stuff over in the EV place (sorry, Ami) but the things I’ve recently taken to Rich’s I’ve been slowly trying to whittle down.
Considering I was able to live without these things (clothes, mainly) for well over half a year, I wonder why I even bother going through it. I should just throw out or donate everything. But always that niggling, “What if?” and “Once I get this tailored I’ll wear it…” Ugh. Why do I bother? I’m going to Vietnam in like 3 weeks where I’ll buy a whole new perfectly tailored custom made for ME wardrobe for a fraction of the cost.
It’s not so much about wanting new things, honestly, but having things that fit and I’ll feel good about wearing so I don’t just let them sit in the closet. Each and every piece should be able to do double duty (mix and match) and fit me perfectly. I can only say that about maybe 20% of the clothes I own now.
My eventual goal in all this is to be able to live out of suitcases. Part of this is because I’m tired of my constant wasteful over-consumption, and the other part is because I want to be ready for wherever my life takes me. Even if it’s just moving from one neighborhood to another within the same city, which I already know is going to happen again before this year is over.
Not that you should care what some stupid American of Vietnamese descent thinks, but can you please keep the douchebag vote to a minimum tomorrow? Thanks.
P.S. If you have trouble deciding, visit this site and answer the questionnaire. Make sure to choose the version with images (Kieskompas in Beeld) because the illustrations are not to be missed!

No, really, some of these are great. Take the questionnaire even if you don’t understand Dutch. Especially if you don’t understand Dutch.
