I have high hopes for it this year. As the price increases year by year, so it has improved (maybe not at parity to the price, but it has improved), and I have faith that Made Event will take strides to correct any issues they’ve previously had. Read on for an overview of the festival.
I’m on the third book of A Song of Fire and Ice. George R. R. Martin just ripped my heart out. I’m not even looking forward to the next season(s) of the show anymore. I can’t bear to watch these beautiful* people, knowing their fates. And I thought Joss Whedon was freakin’ bad.
I’m a leaf on the wind. Watch how I—
*Apparently I have a dismal imagination because 95% of the characters wound up being hotter on the TV show than they were in my head. Even the ones who are supposed to be ugly were not as ugly as I had imagined.
Because I’m so crazy about my stupid watch, I am on the lookout for mustard yellow tops to match the yellow on the dial. Fortunately I already own one cardigan that goes quite well. It has been getting a lot more wear since I got this watch.
Zenith Rainbow Elite
(Oh geez, posting that pic made me realize I forgot to set the date after it sat dead for a couple days. Derp.)
My watch repair kit came in last week and I resized the bracelet. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the pins on the watch back out to put the bracelet on. So it remains on the NATO. I’m loving the braided NATO anyway. I don’t need to add holes or look for a short length (which I’m not sure even exists for these anyway) and I can make it exactly as tight or loose as I please. They are a godsend for the puny-wristed. $20 on eBay.

Here’s a shot to show how thin this watch is. You can also see where I scratched up the lug trying to get the pin out. :(
Zenith Rainbow Elite - 9mm thick
All pics were taken with my camera phone in poor lighting conditions (ah, the wonders of fluorescent office lighting), so you’ll have to excuse the quality.
P.S. I am (mostly) left-handed and wear my watch on the right wrist.
I’ve been having trouble sleeping the past couple days and I woke up in the middle of the night with this song in my head, so now I have to listen to it 100 times to get it out of my head. I like the video, it makes me excited for EZ (though the photos are from Global Gathering 2010 in the UK).
We don’t have casual days in the office, but I’ve decided to do my own Friday thing by wearing the most out-of-place (for the workplace) watch I own. Here’s my new yellow/orange dial Zenith Rainbow Elite on a braided NATO strap, all ready for desk diving. At 39mm and 9mm thick, is it too big for my 5.5″ wrists? Don’t bother to answer that, because I don’t actually care. I’m too busy enjoying my new watch.
Zenith Rainbow Elite Yellow Dial
Sorry about the crappy cell pic.
P.S. I post wrist shots in the hopes that they help anyone asking the question I’ve wondered dozens of times myself: How will this watch fit on my puny wrist? There are few wrist shots of small folks (women, specifically) and I’m sure there are other people in the same boat. If nothing else, it provides a good baseline on the small end. My wrists are tiny, so if you weigh more than 90lbs it’s a safe bet the watches I wear will not be too big on you.
I grew up under the impression that opening doors for people was simply polite, with no notion of its roots in chivalry. When I was young I did not see gender so I absorbed it all as ‘things I should do’, not ‘things men should do for women’ or vice versa. I enjoy opening doors for men now because it throws a lot of them off and they get all flustered and insistent that I go first or whatever. Silly man. I’m already opening the door, just go already.
Politeness is rather strange anyway, especially once you see how varied and conflicting it is across different cultures.
I am really surprised at the amount of people who don’t know there’s a difference between vegetarians and vegans. It’s not even because my sister-in-law is vegan, I distinctly remember learning the difference in elementary health class, which my grade-school mind boiled down to a simple formula: vegetarians = no meat, vegans = no animal product at all. This leaves some wiggle room for the definition of vegetarian, which I find acceptable (except when you run into folks who consider seafood non-meat), and makes it abundantly clear what vegan is.
It’s comments like this, “For me vegan translates to a call to the pizza guy,” that make me scratch my head. I don’t know what pizza guy makes his pizza without real dairy cheese, but maybe the person who posted that lives in some hippie enclave where vegan pizza is easily obtainable by delivery. More likely, they don’t know what “vegan” means.
It’s a men’s watch so the bracelet is probably twice the size of my wrist. Rich and I both attempted to remove some links from the bracelet to no avail. I know I can take it to a jeweler or watch place to do it, but I figured I should get some rudimentary tools because I do like to change out watch straps and I know this won’t be the last watch I get. Then I figured I might as well get a fuller kit to be able to do more stuff like take off case backs and change out the batteries on my quartz pieces.
Oh gods, I’m going to destroy so many watches.
The new watch is a Zenith Rainbow Elite. I’ll get some pics when I resize that bracelet. It’s a 39mm dive watch, but it’s about 9mm thick so it doesn’t look too ridiculous on my puny wrist. Two months ago I would never have considered anything over 33mm, but it seems everyone’s wearing huge watches these days, and 39mm on my wrist won’t be so out of place amongst all the dinner plates I’m seeing lately. Thanks, Flava Flav.
I have a sudden urge to play NBA Jam. I had so much fun playing that game as a kid and I never even cared about basketball. I wish I could remember where I put my SNES.
