I Still Need a New Computer

I said it well over a year ago, and I’m saying it again because I never did get that new computer. I’m so lazy though. I don’t need to buy a whole new PC when I already have a case and hard drives and such. All I really need is a new motherboard, CPU, and graphics card. But these days, I just don’t care enough to take my case apart and swap all that crap out and set everything up. Oh yeah, and RAM. Okay, this is getting more annoying by the minute, see?

There was no point to this except to point out how lazy I am about even entertaining myself.

Preordered the Collector’s Edition of Starcraft II and it came with a beta key printed on the receipt. I can’t wait to get home and get this party started… On the computer that’s not mine.

I Need a New Computer

Looked over the requirements for Starcraft II and my PC doesn’t even begin to match up. It’s still running on 768MB of RAM and the Radeon 9600 video card was great… in 2003. My laptop is also old and wasn’t even that great when I first got it like four years ago. Hell, it takes a minute just to open up Firefox.

I wonder if I should go PC or laptop for a new computer. And if I go PC, should I just buy all the pieces and use my old case or buy a packaged thing because I’m too lazy to assemble all this junk? But then I’d have two towers crowding my <200 sq ft apartment.

Man, it’s crazy to think I used to be up on this stuff, upgrading all the time, religiously keeping tabs on sales and hard drive prices, having at least some semblance of what was fancy and new. It’s been a few years since I’ve cared and so much has changed I feel completely clueless.

Full of Sound and Fury

One of the great things about visiting my parents is the delightful home theatre and sound setup they have. Even without a superior setup, merely the fact that they have a single family home on an acre of land means one can blast the volume without worrying about disturbing the neighbours.

Unfortunately my dad hasn’t been able to get the sound system to work with the computer and I am stuck listening to trance on the crappy monitor speakers. They are tinny and horrible for listening to things that are rich in bass (you know, like trance music). But fear not! I can download the music I want (3 hours for this one mp3 disc set I want; 12 hours for the FLAC files!), burn it to CD/DVD, then play the disc on the DVD player.

…Sometimes it really seems as if all the technological advances in the world don’t really matter in the end. And gods forbid the DVD player doesn’t recognize FLAC and I have to compress it all anyway. :(
